In 2008, the Bevington Boat Access area was created in memory of Sergeant Allan Bevington. Who was killed in action by an I.E.D. during his second tour of duty in Iraq. The launch is 1.3 acres dedicated forpublic use to the Beaver River. Sergeant Bevington was an avid fisherman and boater on the Beaver River.

This project was funded by the county and so many great volunteers and organization.  Special thanks to Bevington Family, Lias Family for property donation, Conservation District, and Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (Officer Joseph Morris) for the many hours. Thanks to Chewton Fire Hall and Wayne Township for safety inspections annually.

The site includes ADA parking and walking path, informational kiosks, a concrete small-motor boat launch, fishing access along the banks, bat boxes, and serves as a respite area along the North Country Trail.  The launch is open year round from Dawn to Dusk and is a leave no trace launch.

Special Note: the surface of the parking area and walking path is a “DSA material” used in the Pennsylvania Dirt and Gravel Road Program. The Conservation District uses Bevington as a demonstration site for the material. This site floods annually and most recently has been inundated with water for longer periods of time. The DSA material has held up over the last 7 years, small drainage improvements and some repairs were done in 2011 where the trail and launch area connected.

NOTICE Boaters Heading Down River~ Irish Ripple is just downstream under the Route 288 Bridge with Wampum on the river right and all boaters must exit the river prior to Beaver Falls Dam.

This site was the first county constructed launch in a series of launches identified in the 2008 County Greenways and Trails Plan. The pilot project was the Shenango Beaver River Water Trail. The intention is to get a launch every few miles for river rescue teams, PA FBC officers, and residents and visitors on and off the water safely.
