PARK-HARBOR TRAIL OPENING CEREMONY
September 11th, 2010

New Bike/Hike Trail Open at West Park Nature Center

A new, two-mile long biking/hiking trail network is now open to the public at West Park Nature Center located on Old Youngstown Road in Union Township.  On hand to dedicate the Park Harbor Trail on Saturday, September 11, 2010 were the Lawrence County Commissioners, the Lawrence County Conservation District, and the Lawrence County Cycling Club.  In addition to the official ribbon cutters, Lawrence County Planning Office staff, Lawrence County Master Gardeners and the Bartramian Audubon Society members helped to celebrate.

The trail is part of a system of trails in the nature center which also includes walking trails, a wildlife sanctuary, bluebird nesting boxes, wetlands, wildflowers, an observation deck and wildlife habitat enhancements.

The new trail, constructed by the staff of the Lawrence County Conservation District, with help from the Lawrence County Cycling Club, Career Link, and the Lawrence County Planning Office, is intended for mountain biking, hiking, and cross country running.  Winter time recreation is also a possibility.  Easy and more difficult routes are marked along the trail using paint markings and signs.

West Park Nature Center, owned by the county and managed by the Lawrence County Conservation District welcomes visitors from dawn to dusk all year.
